Master of Social Work

Program Description

The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program at Appalachian State University seeks to educate social workers who contribute to the growth and success of the profession through skills in advanced clinical practice, leadership and supervision, community development and advocacy, and innovative program planning and administration. Graduates will be qualified to provide advanced social work practice to individuals, families, organizations, and communities. The Appalachian State University Master of Social Work Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

The MSW Program at Appalachian State University offers two concentrations: Individuals and Families and Organizational and Community Practice.

The MSW Program is offered on the main Boone campus as a full time or part time program. Cohorts for the Boone campus start up every August. Application deadline is Feb.15th, 2012.

A part time program is offered in Hickory, NC. This program accepts new students only in even years. The next cohort will begin in Hickory in 2012. Application deadline is March 15th, 2012.

Programs are available for students with undergraduate degrees in areas other than social work. An Advanced Standing Program is also available for those with BSW degrees who meet additional qualifications.

The MSW Program at Appalachian State University is housed within the College of Health Sciences. The MSW program is part of the Cratis D. Williams Graduate School, which is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
