Research Interests: Dr. Broce is a faculty partner with the interdisciplinary HOPE Lab, conducting research on the Mental and Physical Health Benefits of being Outdoors. He has also written about teen dating violence. Dr. Broce teaches Individuals & Families practice courses in the BSW and MSW program, with specialties in Groups practice, practice with Children & Adolescents, and Crisis Intervention. Dr. Broce also maintains a connection with YOFAFO and seeks to lead study abroad programs in Uganda.
Biography: Dr. Broce, LCSW, holds a PhD from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MSW and BS (Therapeutic Recreation) from Brigham Young University. He came to Appalachian State University in 2014 and loves teaching, serving, and researching in the High Country. Dr. Broce supports youth development in the High Country community by serving on the board of Mountain Alliance, serving with his church congregation, and volunteering with other youth-serving organizations. He has worked as a Behavioral Health Crisis Triage clinician with the local health system since 2015. He has previous experience in residential youth treatment, outpatient youth treatment, and intensive in-home with youth and families.
Dr. Broce and his wife Alisha have 6 growing children and love to spend time travelling around the country and enjoying outdoor recreational opportunities.
