What are you requesting?Important Information to Read BEFORE Making Your Request

I AM REQUESTING A SEAT IN A SOCIAL WORK COURSE SECTION WITH CLOSED ENROLLMENT.

(When no seat or waitlist is available.)

Instructors in the Department of Social Work are unable to give permission for students to enroll in their courses. Please do not contact instructors to make requests to enroll in their course sections.

If you are unable to register for a seat in a course or for a waitlist seat in the course, you may make a request following the instructions below using the link.

You will receive an email response to your request after it has been reviewed.

Note that some courses will require a permit or override when students do not meet some criteria for the course (such as a required prerequisite course). The Department of Social Work does not require Social Work minors or students in other majors to take prerequisite courses to Social Work courses.

COURSES AVAILABLE TO SOCIAL WORK MINORS AND NON-MAJORS

The majority of Social Work courses are restricted to Social Work majors. Generally, Social Work electives are offered in particular semesters and are not offered every semester. The Google Form used to make requests will indicate which courses are available for the upcoming semester. Students may only request to enroll in those courses listed in the form.

Course Sections

Please NOTE:

  • Campus students should enroll in course sections ending in the 100s range (101, 102, etc.).
  • Courses with a 350 designation are restricted to students participating in the Department of Social Work's distance education program only.
  • Courses with a 410 designator are reserved for University and Social Work Departmental Honors Students only. Only enroll in a 410 section if you are taking the course for Honors Credit. Students in these sections will have additional course requirements to meet in order to earn Honors credit. Social Work Minors and Students in Other Majors

What are you requesting?Important Information to Read BEFORE Making Your Request

I AM

  • A SOCIAL WORK MINOR OR
  • STUDENT IN A DIFFERENT MAJOR

AND NEED TO REQUEST A COURSE PERMIT OR OVERRIDE.

Social Work Majors ALWAYS have Priority for Seats in Social Work Courses. Depending on demand for seats for Social Work majors in Social Work courses, students majoring in other disciplines and Social Work minors may not be offered a permit for a desired course or permission to enroll in a course.

When seats are potentially available for students other than Social Worker majors, students’ requests for permits and overrides will be accommodated when possible with course seat and waitlist availability.

Please note that priority for seats must be given to Social Work majors who need seats in a course to remain on track for graduation. While it is generally unlikely to happen, it is possible that Social Work minors or students in other majors could be asked to withdraw from a course by the end of the Drop-Add Period should a seat be needed for a social work major.

The Department of Social Work cannot guarantee seat availability to students in other majors in order to complete General Education requirements or concentrations in other majors, but does try to accommodate students whenever possible.

Social Work minors and students in other majors needing prerequisite overrides or other permits to enroll in Social Work courses should use the link to request the override or permit. Provide all required information.

You will receive an email response when the permit has been set or if there are any issues with setting the permit or enrolling in the course.
